Presentation of the region

Social and economic transformation

The Valencia Region has traditionally been known for its agricultural activity, which has given rise to an important flow of exports to European markets, especially involving citrus fruits. However a process of industrialisation has taken place since the beginning of the seventies, which has enabled rapidly winning further European markets. At the same time companies with foreign capital have been establishing themselves since the mid-sixties, reinforcing the industrial fabric of small- and medium-sized enterprises.

Important touristic development has also occurred simultaneously, taking advantage of the natural landscape and climatic conditions of the whole Valencia coastline, so attractive for domestic Spanish tourists as well as for tourism from Northern and Central Europe.
