Presentation of the region

A recent industrialisation

The Valencia Region currently has an industrial sector that produces 28% of the Spanish GNP (34% if the building industry is included). The sector really took off at the start of the sixties on the basis of certain precursor activities in the textile industry in Alcoy, metallurgical and food industry in Valencia and other activities in various districts of the Valencia Region.

The evolution is reflected in a broad fabric of over 15,000 small- and medium-sized industrial enterprises, whose activity is spread over various industrial centres.

– The northern area contains about 60% of Spanish ceramic production, particularly involving floor and wall tile manufacture, concentrated in towns such as Onda, Villareal and Alcora.

– The south of the Region features a dense urban network. 60% of Spanish footwear production is located here along the line of the Vinalopó River.
