How to reach Tampere

Tampere constitutes the northernmost point of the triangle formed by Finland’s three major cities: Tampere, Helsinki and Turku. Tampere is located in Southern Finland some 170 km north-west of Helsinki, the capital of the country. Both domestic and international travel connections to Tampere are excellent. The city is within easy reach by air, by land and in summer, even by water!

   

Fly to Tampere

Tampere has all-year-round direct flights to the city by airBaltic from Copenhagen and Munich three times a week and to Málaga twice a week. There’s also daily flight to Riga. You can also fly to Tampere from Nice and Milan in the summer. Additionally, there are all-year-round flights from London by Ryanair. Finnair also has flights to Tampere from Helsinki.

Tampere-Pirkkala Airport is located 17 kilometres from the city centre. It’s easy to reach by public transport.

   

To Tampere by Train

Tampere is easily accessible by train from all over Finland (1,5 h from Helsinki). You can catch the train from Helsinki Airport to Tampere via Tikkurila station.

There are good connections to all over the city from the Tampere railway station.

You can catch the local buses from Hämeenkatu (main street) and Rautatienkatu streets, and there’s also a taxi rank in front of the station building.

The city bus number 103 operates between the Airport and the city centre. You can also take a taxi from the railway station to Tampere-Pirkkala Airport.

To Tampere by Bus

Tampere is within easy reach by bus, and the bus connections within the city are versatile.

The long-distance coaches operate from the Tampere bus station, address Hatanpään valtatie 5-7.

Also Onnibus operates from Tampere – you can find information about the routes and timetables from Onnibus website.

Getting Around

Tampere Regional Transport Nysse offers a good route network in Tampere and the surrounding towns. You can travel conveniently and reliably from one place to another, every day. You can find bus and tram routes and timetables on the Reittiopas website, which is also available in the Nysse Mobiili application.

You can buy a Day Ticket for the public transportation. With a Day Ticket you can travel by bus, tram and train in the zones of your choice for 24 hours. The number of the trips is not limited. The same tickets can be used in trams and buses, and you can buy tickets on Nysse Mobiili -mobile app or by using contactless payment – or use a travel card. You can read more about the tram from Tampere tramway website.

If you need to get around by car, you can rent one from Avis. They also have e-cars! Also Taksi Tampere offers comprehensive taxi services in the area!

E-scooters are available for rental from several different companies in Tampere, such as Tier and Voi.

On Hopealinjat (Silverline) cruises, you can reach Viikinsaari Island or make at trip for example to Hämeenlinna or Ruovesi.
